An interesting issue
Lot 2310
Gordian III, 238-244. Antoninianus (Silver, 23 mm, 4.62 g, 5 h), Antiochia, 239-240. IMP CAES M ANT GORDIANVS AVG Radiate, draped and cuirassed bust of Gordian III to right, seen from behind. Rev. LIBERALITAS AVG Libertas standing front, head to left, holding pileus in her right hand and transverse scepter in her left. Bland 18. Cohen 126. Michaux 481. RIC 187a. Minor areas of weakness and with very light deposits, otherwise, extremely fine.

From the collection of Dipl.-Ing. Adrian Lang, Leu 12, 15 May 2022, 1372 and ex Naumann E-Auction 56, 6 August 2017, 636.

This interesting issue combines the image of Libertas with the inscription LIBERALITAS AVG. What looks like a mere engraver's error at first glance is, in fact, clearly intended, as the combination occurs on several reverse dies.
